I'll grant you everything EXCEPT that it's absurd for abortion to be someone's number one issue. The economy is rough, yes, and some people don't have health insurance (we'll debate how much of that's good or bad another time). But if you believe that life begins at conception, and thus that abortion is tantamount to murder, then it's quite reasonable to see that it would be someone's number one issue. We're talking about over 1.5 million people killed every year. That's 380 times (every year) as many as have died in Iraq since that war began in 2003.

Now, as I said, if you don't grant the original premise that life begins at conception then this means nothing - which is fine. But if someone does believe that then it is reasonable, I think, for them to think this issue is the most important one.

But anyway, denying communion? No, not cool. You don't get to play God with an Ordinance of the Church.
