Leesa and I were discussing this the other day and she came up with an alternate theory. She suggests that none of it is actually sarcastic. He's saying that the traffic, at home, is terrific, relative to the traffic he's used to. Which, if he was traveling from an urban to a more rural area, for the holidays, the traffic would then improve.
Course the idea that someone would be looking forward to pumpkin pie is the real indicator of sarcasm, to my mind.

Hmm, that could be as well. I still find it odd that a song titled "Home for the Holidays" spends most of the time talking about people traveling. :)
And you just haven't had my pumpkin pie!
